And no he's not going above Wrys either. Just healer utility for two chapters>>>what Gordon does.
You can't wholeheartedly shrug off Gordon's earlygame contributions though.
For one, Gordon is the most accurate 2-range unit you have at the time. Anyone with a Javelin | Hand Axe is pretty inaccurate against Pirates and Fighters, which exist for a time period of 1, 2, 3, 4, 6X, and C9. By 9 and probably 6X things have cleared up; however, it boils back to 1-4. His only competition for bows for 2-3 are Castor, and by 4 we have the shops at our disposal. Wrys has 20 uses before C2-3 while Gordon has lots of use between 1-3.
Of course I'm not going to shrug off Wrys's advantages, which is he has the higher Staff rank for a good amount of time (only Rena beats him by the time they show up, Wrys might be looking at mid-Ds to C range by the time we see Wendell) which gives Wrys some use with Physic, Warp, and other good staves.
So what it would "actually" boil down to between Wrys and Gordon is between healing utility for an extended period of time versus reliable chip damage for the first four (five I guess since 5 does have Pegasi in it) chapters of chip damage utility, then possibly becoming a pinch healer.
But I still see Wrys > Gordon anyway.
