Keep in mind guys I never hate IOS just because he denied Dolph access to Mid. Though, it does root back to that argument.
Big Mac is far worse than Dolph in the beginning. His base stats should easily explain this. So there is Radd and, though I absolutely loathe Curate -> Sniper, cannot deny that Radd does have a lot of advantages.
First off, Radd being a Curate means he draws from a second pool of EXP instead of Combat. At that point Merric is probably close to promoting and the only "other" staff users are likely Rena (who isn't promoting / care about EXP), Wendell (while I don't want to argue his utility being run out, is likely being dropped by now), and whoever else really. Shiida is nearing promo though she still has Bishop if she desperately wants the Staff rank or can just spam Magic as usual.
Secondly Radd is contributing to the team while Mac is... likely hurting the team. Hunter -> General ideally works for early characters and slight consideration of Roger / Caesar (though I argue they're better Fighter -> Heroes especially if Roger gets the possibility of the Speedwing), etc. In short: going Curate and being neutral utility is far better than going something and being... failure?
So let's look over this:
20/1 Radd: 35.8 HP | 11.1 Str | 12.8 Skl | 15.6 Spd | 8.6 Luck | 10.1 Def | 8.4 Res
10/1 Big Mac: 33.0 HP | 12.8 Str | 7.5 Skl | 10.3 Spd | 6.1 Luck | 16.6 Def | 3.0 Res
And while it's true that Mac has the better concrete durability in some areas, Radd can still take him up to the offensive spectrum once he hits Silvers.
So the deal is this: Radd has the possibility to be promoted earlier than Radd. His EXP gain is easier, and if he gets here a little earlier his benefits are better.
Before IOS jumps a gun and tries to argue Dolph down, keep in mind that Dolph is much better than Mac after promotion in the sense that Dolph has an existant Def growth, Spd growth, etc.
EDIT: I'd say mid-15 to 16 Radd is good for promotion at 20/1, around the same time Dolph is about 10/1, so Radd might have a level or two over Mac.
